Resident Chaplain

Cultivate Creativity / Foster Community / Deeply Inspire

Upon transferring to Lee University, I came with a strong passion to make a meaningful impact on my time in Cleveland, TN. As I prayerfully stepped into Fall 2019, I quickly became enthralled by Lee University's unique take on traditional Residential Life and Housing.

I am deeply inspired by the role as a Resident Chaplain because during a time where it is easy to remain inward focussed on personal learning and growth, I was encouraged to continuously pursue students in some of the best - and worst - times of their lives.

What is a Resident Chaplain?

Residential Life and Housing at Lee University cares deeply about holistic student safety. This means physically, as it is a college campus, but also relationally and spiritually. Resident Assistants are tasked to engage students in their community while maintaining and encouraging a healthy and safe environment. The Resident Chaplain is able to partner with Resident Assistants as they build relationships, actively engage in student mentorship/discipleship, and other community growth activities.

My Experience

Fall 2020 until Spring 2021 as a junior marketing student, I was able to be a Resident Chaplain for a freshman girls dorm, overseeing around 300 students. I hired a team of seven girls and closely walked with them in their faith; equipping them with tools to lead dorm-wide weekly small groups, and engage their halls in community development. Aside from inside the team, I actively networked with other students with various relational, spiritual, and educational needs to ensure holistic student safety. Finally, I closely walked with the Discipleship Ministries Coordinator and other Resident Chaplains across the campus to creatively ideate events, strategically implement campus opportunities to foster community, and engage students in spiritual growth.
